Welcome back to Facility Feature Friday! Today we're showcasing the retractable batting cage at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Guardians!
To kickoff the 2024 MLB season, the Cleveland Guardians installed a retractable batting cage in the right field concourse of Progressive Field. This comes with the new renovations the Guardians have planned, taking place during the next couple of seasons. As the 10th oldest active MLB ballpark, Progressive Field has been home to the Guardians (formerly Indians) since the 1994 season. With one of the more underrated ballparks in the MLB, the Guardians faithful soldout 455 consecutive games from 1995 to 2001. Now, Progressive Field has a capacity of 34,830 and the Guardians ownership group plans on expanding that.
The Guardians have turned the upper deck concourses into a more enjoyable fan experience. In left field, aka the Terrace District, the Guardians added a rooftop patio with a bar and concession stand. Right field is home of the Pennant District, with a capacity of 1,200 fans, a panoramic view of downtown Cleveland, and new high-top tables and seating. The batting cage the Guardians installed is On Deck Sports’ Fully Retractbale Sports Cage. The batting cage is 38' L x 20' W x 18' H, equipped with #36 Mesh Black Knotted Netting. In addition, it’s in a prime location in the right field concourse. The space sits right behind the right field foul pole, overlooking the field and giving fans a prime opportunity to watch a big league ballgame while taking some hacks!
As of today, the Guardians have the 2nd-best record in the MLB at 58-37 and currently sit as the #1 seed in the American League. With the second half the of season kicking off today, they hope to continue this success into the playoffs and compete for a World Series.
